A lot has changed in 2020. Our everyday life, our priorities and above all our focus. COVID-19 of course had a significant impact on this. Especially when it comes to our health, we are more careful than ever, we are paying more attention to ourselves and others. Therefore, at the beginning of 2021 we would like to talk about food trends with the focus on our health. What did we change? What is good for us? And what will we keep when our everyday life is back to normal? We selected three trends in relation to our health:
- Soft health
In short, soft health means holistic, balanced and fresh food. Most people are cooking more at home again, paying attention to fresh and healthy ingredients, as we have realized again, it is a privilege to be healthy – a trend that will last.
- Clean Food
Natural ingredients, no allergens, no additives or flavorings, if possible, even without white sugar. Organically controlled fruits and veggies, if not demeter. We are not only switching back to basics because of allergies or intolerances, we do not want to stress our bodies even more than necessary everyday. Working from home and the associated home cooking have a major influence on this, as we have more time to inform ourselves and can now decide and see for ourselves what really ends up on our plate.
- Plant-based Food
Flexitarians, veggie, vegan, plant-based – all terms that become commonplace, as our consciousness, especially of younger generations, tends to be more and more sustainable. The motto is no plastic, no artificials, less meat. Meat from bad keeping, factory farming and non-ethical slaughtering is increasingly boycotted, plastic bags are banned, this all with upward tendency. Globally, around 1 billion people are now vegan or vegetarian, of which around 7% in the UK, 10% in Germany and 5% in the Netherlands. Flexitarian living is also becoming increasingly popular. Meat is only bought and eaten here from controlled animal welfare.
